Uganda hosts Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, boosting tourism

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country’s Consulate in Mombasa have hosted a coast tourism conference boosting tourism

When we first started working with Kenya Coast tourism stakeholders, we found that not many of them—and Kenyans in general—were aware of Uganda’s tourism offerings. Many of the mountain gorillas admitted to selling Rwanda in the past. This is true even though Kenya is Uganda’s top source market for tourists, according to a Ugandan official.

Although the actual experience has already begun, the Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference will be held in Uganda.

The first two conferences took place in Kenya, at Mombasa in November 2022 and Diani, Kwale County, in November 2023.

The third conference, promoting job creation, inclusivity, and sustainability, will take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

More than 500 governmental and business tourism players from Kenya, Uganda, and other countries will attend the conference to develop a plan for promoting travel between the Kenya Coast and Uganda.

In order to improve their ability to promote these sites, the conference will give the major actors in the tourism industry from Uganda and the Kenyan coast firsthand knowledge of the main attractions.

Promoting regional travel and increasing awareness of Uganda Airlines’ Entebbe–Mobasa route will be two more important goals. In the past, Kenya Airways was the only airline offering flights from the Kenya Coast to Uganda via Nairobi.

Kenyan tourism stakeholders have begun a familiarization trip to Uganda from November in preparation for the conference.

During this trip, they will visit the sites of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semliki Hot Springs, and Source of the Nile.

On November 9, 2024, the Kampala Golf Club will host a golf competition between Kenya and Uganda.
