Registered as A6-XWF, Etihad Airways A350-1000, was involved in flight EY9 from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH)

On it’s way from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (O), according to data from Flightradar24.

The Etihad Airways A350-1000 was due to return to Abu Dhabi on flight EY10 after making a smooth landing in Chicago.

This airline, however, decided not to proceed with that particular flight, and the Airbus widebody stayed in Chicago until September 28.

Transported to Abu Dhabi
Records from the flight-tracking website show the A350-1000 departing Chicago on September 28 at 05:05 local time.

Abu Dhabi was the destination for the widebody plane.

It was on a non-commercial flight, as indicated by the unique code ETD76TA, which the A350-1000 was using.

Statement from Etihad Airways

A representative for Etihad Airways commented on the situation to Simple Flying, saying,

“On September 28, an Etihad aircraft travelling from Chicago to Abu Dhabi made a precautionary technical stop at London Heathro.

Both engines were fully operating and there were no passengers on board, the Tour was a scheduled positioning flight.”

At 6:33 local time (UTC +1), the A350-1000 touched down in the capital of the United Kingdom.

It then taxied to a distant stand close to Terminal 4 at London Heathrow and after a while moved on.

This plane finally started flying again, leaving Heathrow at 20:42 on September 28 for Abu Dhabi.

On September 29, it touched down at Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport at 05:55 local time (UTC +4).

September 30, the aircraft returned to commercial service after spending the remainder of the day at Etihad Airways’ main hub.

Then on September 30, at 03:02, the A350-1000 set out on its return route to Zurich Airport (ZRH) arriving at the Swiss airport at 07:17 local time (UTC 2).
