Japan Airlines is offering free domestic flights to American Tourists
Japan Airlines is offering free domestic flights to American Tourists and other travellers from other countries.
To be eligible, travellers must reserve round-trip tickets on Japan Airlines.
In 2023, Tokyo had record numbers of foreign tourists, bringing in $37 billion in tourism-related spending.
Japan is a popular travel destination, and a new project will make travel there easier and more economical than in the past.
A recent notice on Japan Airlines’ website states that the airline is providing free domestic flights to travellers from the US, Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand.
Travellers from Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, China, and Taiwan will also be able to access it.
Tourists must reserve round-trip foreign flights with the same airline and the domestic flights must be booked in the same reservation as the international flights in order to be eligible for the free tickets.
Travellers from the US, Canada, Mexico, and China who intend to spend more than 24 hours at their initial destination will be assessed a $100 stopover tax.
Business Insider was informed by a Japan Airlines representative that “no end date has been set” for the experiment.
Lesser-known towns and cities will become more accessible thanks to the new program.
New York-based travel writer Grace Cheng recently told BI that tourists to Japan frequently make the mistake of only visiting Tokyo, which under-represents the country’s diverse and expansive culture.
In recent years, Tokyo has gained popularity.
According to statistics tracking website Statista, the number of foreign visitors to the city hit a new high of 19.54 million in 2023.
According to the website, foreign tourists spent over 5.31 trillion Japanese yen, or roughly $37 billion, on tourism that same year.
“Tokyo is not Japan,” explained Cheng. “And you need to explore the other cities to actually have a sense of what Japan is like.”
Cheng suggests travelling to Sapporo, which is located in the northern Japanese prefecture of Hokkaido.
She claimed that it has pleasant residents and is frequently less expensive than the capital.
Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, meanwhile, recommends travelling to Kanazawa on Honshu Island’s east coast to see its historic teahouses, Edo-era architecture, and traditional Japanese artists, or geishas.
The publication listed a number of other well-known places, such as the island settlement of Naoshima in the Seto Inland Sea.
