Ammor has fresh ideas to revitalize domestic travel to boost tourism.

Rabat: According to Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, domestic travel in Morocco is increasing, with 30 million overnight stays reported.

Ammor described Moroccan visitors as “top clients” in a Monday speech to Parliament, adding that domestic travel is “an engine for jobs, local growth, and regional development.”

There’s a catch, though. Demand frequently outpaces supply during summer vacations, the minister noted, highlighting seasonal demand as a major obstacle.

“Domestic tourism is a key focus in the new strategy for the sector,” she noted, reassuring that Morocco has measures to reverse this trend.

Ammor unveiled a novel strategy to maintain the year-round buzz of tourism travel.

The two main areas of concentration for this plan are nature and excursions and coastal tourism, which will influence news products to cater to Moroccan tourists‘ demands.

Ammor listed five essential actions. The first is to offer family-friendly, more reasonably priced lodgings, including less expensive home-sharing possibilities.

The second is to find hidden treasures in isolated places and establish quicker air travel connections between Moroccan cities.

The construction of larger tourist attractions comes in third. Azilal’s DinoParc, eco-resorts in Oukaïmeden and Khénifra, and natural parks in Ifrane, Toubkal, and Souss-Massa are among the initiatives that are now under progress.

The ministry plans to launch a media campaign called “Netla9aw f’bladna” (Let’s Meet in Our Country) to encourage domestic travel by igniting Moroccans’ curiosity about their own country and other places.

Training courses to advance local guides for city tours, nature hikes, and outdoor excursions will also be part of the program.

Morocco’s ministry 2023-2026 on boosting domestic tourism

The ministry’s 2023–2026 strategy is having positive effects on a global scale.

Over 13 million foreign tourists arrived in Morocco by the end of September 2023, an increase of 2 million.

By August 2024, tourism had generated MAD 17 billion ($1.74 billion), a 20% increase over the previous year.

Additionally, between January and August, the industry generated over $7.83 billion in revenue.

The industry generated 15.83 million tourists spent the night in hotels.

More than 17.5 million tourists are expected to visit Morocco in 2026, and 26 million in 2030.

The government has laid out plans to create top-notch tourist destinations, improve transit connections.
