Safari park welcomes flamingo chicks to boost Tourism at Wiltshire’s Longleat Safari Park in England United Kingdom

Longleat At birth, all flamingo chicks have white plumage. According to an animal park, there is a “baby boom” going on, with newly hatched flamingo chicks among them.
Recently, an endangered cotton top tamarin monkey baby and rare Amur tiger cubs were welcomed to Wiltshire’s Longleat Safari Park.

The lone egg that flamingos lay is atop a tall cone nest, according to the park’s keepers.
“It is proving to be an exciting year for new arrivals and the flamingo chicks should be relatively easy for people to spot,” stated Longleat’s head of animal operations, Darren Beasley.

Every flamingo chick has straight bills that eventually droop as it grows, and they all have white plumage at birth, which they preserve for roughly three years.

According to safari park keepers, this year has been exciting for newcomers.

It’s fascinating to note that as the youngsters mature, their feathers will turn pink, even if they are initially white or grey.

This is a result of the hue originating from their food, Mr. Beasley explained.
“In the wild, flamingos obtain their food through filter feeding, which involves eating small crustaceans and other microscopic animals and plants.

“They consume a unique flamingo diet at Longleat that contains pigments necessary for preserving their unique colour.”
When fully grown, the birds can weigh up to 7 kg and stand roughly 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) tall.
In the wild, they have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years, but in captivity, where they are safe from predators, they can live up to 70 years.
