Heathrow Airport resumes flights after closure caused by fire

Heathrow Airport resumes flights after closure caused by fire leading to major power outage in west London that grounded all flights.

A spokesperson said: “Our teams have worked tirelessly since the incident to ensure a speedy recovery.

We’re pleased to say we’re now safely able to begin some flights later today.

Our first flights will be repatriation flights and relocating aircraft.”

They told Tourists and travellers not to go to the airport unless advised to do so by their airline, adding:

“We will now work with the airlines on repatriating the passengers who were diverted to other airports in Europe.

We hope to run a full operation tomorrow and will provide further information shortly.”

They said Heathrow uses as much energy as a small city, so getting back to a full and safe operation took time.

Some 1,351 flights were either cancelled or forced to land elsewhere.

And with up to 291,000 passengers or Tourists affected, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.

Significant disruption is expected over the coming days.

Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officers are involved in the investigation.

The force said there was no direct evidence of sabotage, but there was a quick need to rule out foul play.

An estimated 67,000 households suffered power cuts. About 5,000 were still without power later on Friday.
