ASEAN tour operators thrilled by Uganda’s tourist attractions

Tour operators from these nations have spent the previous ten days experiencing Uganda’s distinctive tourist attractions

Uganda’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dr. Betty Oyella Bigombe, highlighted the engagement’s broad implications.

Dr. Bigombe stated that the visit served as a springboard for strategic partnerships that will propel economic expansion.

“Key actors in the tourist industry and beyond have a rare opportunity to find areas for strategic relationships at this event.

Developing strong partnerships with ASEAN not only improves commerce but also boosts employment and both countries.

Bigombe also emphasized Uganda’s favorable investment environment, which includes tax breaks, a supportive legislative environment, and prospects in important industries including oil and gas, agro-processing, infrastructure development, and mineral value addition.

According to a baseline report by Tourism Research and Development and the ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, 2024, the tourism industry continues to be a vital component of Uganda’s economy, accounting for 7.7% of its GDP and generating close to 667,000 jobs.

The visit was well-timed and helped establish Uganda as a top travel destination for tourists from around the world.

The goal of this visit is to foster a lasting partnership between ASEAN and Uganda.

Tourist attractions are being boosted by Uganda government

Ugandan government is actively working to leverage its overseas embassies to market Uganda as a top tourist destination.

ASEAN representatives used Thursday’s business interaction sessions as an opportunity to learn more about Uganda’s vibrant initiatives and its lucrative industries that are ready for investment. Additionally, it set the stage for future cooperation, according to Dorcus.

Bigombe highlighted Asia’s enormous potential as a major source market for tourists to Uganda.

Mugarra, the State Minister of Tourism, expressed gratitude for the work done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He expressed gratitude to the Uganda Mission in Malaysia for helping to fund a number of events in Kampala.

He clarified that although UTB handled the logistics, the Kuala Lumpur mission was cognizant of their financial limitations.

Given what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demonstrated it can accomplish with very little, Mugarra promised to support the Ministry’s request for additional funding.

“We shall support you in your requests for more finances in cabinet, in the Ministry of Finance and in Parliament,” he said.
