Cape Town expects record tourism numbers this festive season

Cape Town is ready for what is expected to be a record-breaking tourist season as it expects high record tourism numbers this festive season

The city is still a popular choice for foreign tourists because it is more affordable than places like London and New York.

Cape Town was voted Africa’s Leading tourism Destination for the fourth year in a row.

The expansion of short-term rentals—Cape Town’s Airbnb industry is outpacing that of other major cities.

An increase in experiential tourism due to new attractions like the Durbanville Wine Safari and Uber Safari service are two important trends influencing the summer season.

During the 2023–2024 season, cruise travel created around 2,000 employment and contributed R1.32 billion to the local economy.

The forthcoming season may spur expansion in the residential and commercial real estate industries, according to Wesley Cowan.

Despite other urban issues, the city’s well-maintained infrastructure continues to be a major draw for both businesses and tourists.

Moreover, cruise tourism is also a key trend as a high demand from international visitors continues to fuel this sector. During the 2023/24 season, the cruise industry contributed R1,32 billion to Cape Town’s economy. Nearly 2 000 jobs were created across tourism and other related fields.

Likewise, this upcoming festive season bears the potential to benefit the local economy.

Cowan is excited to see how increased demand over the festive season could drive growth in both residential and commercial property markets.
