Ethiopia to join East Africa Community
Ethiopia to join East Africa Community an effort to have regional development in Tourism and other sectors.
The announcement comes a few months following Somalia’s admission to the East Africa Community (EAC).
Ethiopia is going to be the ninth member of the organisation.
Peninah Malonza, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of EAC, Arid and Semi-arid Lands, and Regional Development, says.
While attending the head of a food distribution campaign for relief in Kitui Central Constituency, Malonza say.
Negotiations between Ethiopia and the heads of state of the EAC Summit are nearing completion.
And Ethiopia will shortly join the East Africa Community, she adds.
In addition to Ethiopia’s admittance, the EAC member states want to establish the necessary institutions.
This will harmonise important policies in order to achieve the region’s goal of having a common currency by the end of this year.
This is specified in the EAC Monetary Union Protocol.
Members states of East Africa Community
Currently, the East Africa member states include; the Republic of Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya the pioneer of the group.
Followed by the Republic of Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of South Sudan
Next is the Republic of Burundi and Federal Republic of Somalia,
In total, there are eight (8) Partner States that make up the East African Community (EAC).
It is a regional intergovernmental organisation with its headquarters located in Arusha, Tanzania.
The East African Community (EAC) is set to become a market size of 800 million people, with the introduction of more countries.
This will largely contribute to the regional economic community on the cards.
Note that more countries like Djibouti are in the line of joining the community
