Unions and the company that runs it, Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), came to an agreement on Saturday.

With Paris preparing to host the 2024 Olympic Games this summer, this is the second strike.

It comes after the previous one in three months at the famous landmark in France.

Apologising to ticket holders, SETE promises to refund them for any reservations affected by the action, which led to the cancellation of about 100,000 entries to the Tourists.

The striking employees, according to the influential Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) union, were upset.

The SETE’s economic model underestimate future Tourists numbers, thus under look maintenance and refurbishment costs.

Speaking on behalf of the union, Stéphane Dieu charged SETE with pursuing short-term financial success.

The monument’s condition has also drawn criticism from the protesters; according to Le Monde.

It hasn’t been repainted in 14 years as opposed to the customary seven, and other restoration projects are running behind schedule.

The strike this week was initially scheduled to last for five days, but CGT said on Friday that workers had decided to extend it to Saturday instead of accepting SETE’s original suggestion.

During the second week of the French school holidays, there were strikes.
A deal “under which the parties will regularly monitor the company’s business model is in place.”

“Investment in works and revenue through a body that will meet every six months” was announced by SETE on Saturday.

This is in reference to the agreement it signed with the unions.

It further stated that all parties had agreed to see an expenditure of about €380 million (£325 million) to 2031.

This is towards construction and maintenance of the landmark, with the goal of balancing their finances by 2025.

The French Culture Minister Rachida Dati says that the Eiffel Tower be designated as a “historical monument” in order to enable the government to provide funding for repairs if necessary.

The last time the Eiffel Tower was closed was on December 27 when workers staged another protest against the tower’s management to commemorate Gustave Eiffel’s 100th birthday.

Civil engineer Eiffel gained notoriety for constructing viaducts and bridges for the French railway system.

But his most famous creation is the tower, which serves as the focal point since1889 Paris Exposition.

It is world’s fair and serves as a showcase for France’s contemporary industrial might.

Constructed in just over two years, it was the world’s highest structure at the time and quickly came to symbolise the French capital.
