Airbus regrets to announce that on January 2, 2024, just after 17:47 (local time), an A350-900 operated by Japan Airlines was involved in an accident during flight JAL516 from Sapporo New Chitose Airport to Haneda International Airport.

The aircraft’s 12 crew members and 367 passengers were all evacuated.
At Haneda, the A350 and a DHC-8 aircraft collided while landing.

Regrettably, five out of the six individuals on board the DHC-8 did not survive, as acknowledged by the Japanese authorities. We still don’t know the event’s precise circumstances.

The aircraft in question, registered as JA13XJ, was MSN 538 when it was taken off the assembly line and handed to Japan Airlines on November 10, 2021. Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines propelled it.
